Golf Tip: Don’t Push That Putt

Cary Gran from Akron, Ohio wrote to me this week and wanting to know if I have any drills to help him stop pushing the ball when he is putting.often, when people are pushing putts it is a function of leaving the club face open after striking the ball.here is what you need to do in order to help you keep the face square after contact or even release a bit preventing the club face from opening.

  • To start, place a ball on the green about six feet from the hole.
  • After you have located your target line, simply place a tee in the ground about four inches in front of your ball and just to the right of the target line.
  • After you have done this go ahead and hit the ball making sure you do not hit the tee with your putter. It will feel like you will pull the putt, however this is the feeling of not opening the club face after impact, allowing you to keep the face square to the target line giving you a better chance to make more putts!
  • Thank you for the question Cary and good luck.
